Order your original 1982 George Washington Half Dollar today for just €59 (plus €3.95 P&P)!

The 1982 George Washington Half Dollar is very important in the history of American numismatics because it marks the beginning of the modern commemorative coin era in the United States.  The production of traditional commemorative coins in the USA had ended in 1954. The coins were struck in 90% silver, which was the first time that coins had been struck in 90% silver since 1964.

The coin was struck to mark the 250th anniversary of the birth of the first man to hold the office of President of the United States, George Washington. Artist Elizabeth Jones, who served as the chief sculptor and engraver at the US Mint, created both designs for the coin with the obverse depicting Washington on horseback and the reverse showing Washington’s home at Mount Vernon, with a heraldic eagle below.
