This King Azes II Silver Tetradrachm is an original ancient silver coin was minted during the dynasty of Azes II, ruler of the Persian Kingdom of Sakastan (in present day Eastern Iran) from 35 B.C. to 5 A.D. It is a rare witness to the birth of Christianity. Historians believe Azes II sent his representative to the Holy Land seeking proof of the birth of the Christ Child. Called Gaspar or Caspar, he was one of the Magi who gazed upon the baby Jesus and offered gifts to the Child King. Historical evidence suggests that Gaspar’s journey was actually financed by these silver coins. He is certain to have carried them to the Holy Land and used them to purchase the gifts of frankincense and myrrh.

This 2,100-year-old coin depicts Azes II on horseback on the obverse and features a standing figure of Zeus with eagle and sceptre on the reverse. Because the obverse legend of this coin was written in Greek and the reverse in Indian script, these bronze coins are among the very first bilingual coins in the history of the world! Much of Azes’ coinage was issued before the birth of Christ, although some had to have been struck during his childhood and all were in circulation during his lifetime.

The Silver Age of the Magi Tetradrachm is available to you for just €139 (plus €4.95 P&P) and was struck over 2,100 years ago, giving you the opportunity to hold history in your hands.
