After two and a half years of relentless war and hostility, a ceasefire was called on 11 July 1921, and both sides entered into peace negotiations. This led to the Anglo-Irish Treaty, which concluded the war and saw the creation of the Irish Free State on 6 December 1922.

This would be the first time in history that Ireland would gain true independence, a freedom that would not have been possible without the brave men and women who sacrificed themselves for the liberation of their country.

An everlasting act of remembrance

To commemorate those whose lives were changed during the two and a half year conflict, a medal has been issued in honour of the sacrifices made by so many in the fight for freedom.

Struck to Collector quality as a symbol of remembrance, the Garden of Remembrance Photographic Medal pays homage to those who lost their lives in the pursuit of Ireland’s freedom, including men, women, children and civilians.
