Over 110 years ago, over 2,200 people boarded the Titanic and after its last port of call at Cobh she embarked on her long-anticipated maiden voyage to New York. The voyage was intended to be the first of many trans-Atlantic crossings. Choosing to ignore a series of warnings from other ships of drifting ice in the area, at 11:40pm on 14^th April, lookout Frederick Fleet spotted an iceberg immediately ahead of the Titanic and alerted the bridge. The ship was ordered to steer around the obstacle and the engines to be reversed, however, it was too late, and the starboard side of the Titanic struck the iceberg. The “unsinkable” ship descended to the depths of the freezing North Atlantic Ocean and claimed the lives of over 1,500 people.

2022 not only marked the 110^th anniversary of what has become one of history’s most famous shipwrecks but also the 25^th anniversary of the release of the Oscar-winning dramatization of the event, Titanic, that introduced millions of people across the world to the history of the fateful night.
