Leinster House houses the Parliament of Ireland. Built in 1745–48 by James FitzGerald, Earl of Kildare, it was originally home to Dukes of Leinster. When the AngloIrish Treaty (1921) enabled the creation of the Irish Free State, the House was selected initially as a temporary Parliament chamber in December 1922,  The building was bought outright in 1924.
