The United States Gold Eagle Coin is an official gold bullion coin of the United States of America.
The 1986 American Eagle coin began life as an idea presented by Congressman Ron Paul to President Ronald Reagan’s Gold Commission in 1981. Congress enacted the “Gold Bullion Act of 1985”and thereafter in 1986 the Eagle was released and became one of the most popular gold coins in the world today.

The obverse design by Adolph A. Weinman features a rendition of Augustus Saint-Gaudens’ renowned Double Eagle commissioned by President Theodore Roosevelt in the early 20th century. It features the full length figure of Lady Liberty with flowing hair, holding a torch in her right hand and an olive branch in her left. The reverse design, by sculptor Miley Busiek, features a male eagle carrying an olive branch flying above a nest containing a female eagle and her hatchlings.

The American eagle was chosen in 1782 as the emblem of the United States of America, because of its long life, great strength and majestic looks, and also because at the time it was believed to only exist on that continent. The US eagle is the first coin in the Magnificent 7 set, and this set came as a result of a unique cooperation between the mints of Australia, Great Britain, Mexico, Canada, USA, China and South Africa. Each mint has made available their most beautiful and valuable coins - each coin a masterpiece in itself - for this extraordinary collection.
