In 1966 we saw the 50th anniversary of the Easter Rising, and to mark this occasion the very first Irish commemorative coin was struck! Struck in solid silver, this coin is the only Irish coin to have concave striking, meaning the coin dips in the centre on both faces.

Many of the 1966 Ten Shillings were melted down the year they were produced, the reason for this is that the coin was swiftly replaced by the ten shilling banknote so these should have all been recalled and melted, however, examples exist today making this a highly sought after Irish coin.

The A Nation's Legacy The Irish Silver Ten Shilling is available to you for just €89 (plus €3.95 P&P) and is the only circulating Irish coin ever to feature the bust of anyone associated with Irish history or politics
